      Working with Victims of Sexual Violence who are LGBT+

      This course is for practitioners working with Lambeth residents only. Priority will be given to practitioners based in Lambeth.  Trainer: Galop Galop is the pan London LGBTQ+ support and advocacy service providing specialist support to London residents who identify as LGBTQ+ and are victims of domestic abuse, sexual abuse or/and hate crime. This workshop aims to provide attendees with a better understanding of sexual violence as experienced by LGBT+ people. Attendees will also reflect on the barriers LGBT+ victims face in accessing services, and how each agency can tackle these barriers, and offer more inclusive and more supportive services. Objectives By attending this course, participants will: Understand the distinction between anatomical sex at birth, gender identity, gender expression, sexual attraction and romantic attraction Have gained a deeper understanding of LGBT+ identities and the history of discrimination against LGBT+ people Better understand LGBT+ people’s particular experience of sexual abuse Be aware of the embedded practices and persistent misconceptions which make it harder for LGBT+ people to access services and get appropriate support. Have analysed relevant case studies (including chemsex and Intimate Partner Sexual Violence) Know how to improve their own and their agency’s response to LGBT+ victims of sexual violence.
