      PRIVATE VIEW | Troy | 8.45am

The city of Troy has inspired myriad myths and legends, including Homer’s Iliad (1260-1180BC); Virgil’s Aeneid, with its Trojan horse filled with hidden soldiers (29-19BC); and William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida (1609). The British Museum’s major exhibition explores the ongoing debate as to whether Troy ever actually existed, with archaeological evidence from excavations in the 1870s, as well as Classical Greek vases and later Bronze Age discoveries. On this Private View, following a brief introductory talk by one of the curators, there is time to explore the exhibition before it opens to the public.
