Injustice Exposed: The Criminalisation of Transgender People and its Impact

Join the Human Dignity Trust for the official launch of Injustice Exposed: The Criminalisation of Transgender People and its Impact, our global report on the criminalisation of trans and gender diverse people. We are launching this important piece of research with a panel of experts, who will be discussing the relationship between trans people and the law globally, and discussing the findings of Injustice Exposed. Trans and gender diverse people are criminalised across all regional, religious and cultural borders, and are targeted by a raft of different laws. The majority of trans and gender diverse people experience violence and abuse from state officials, and identify them as the main perpetrators of their discrimination.  At least 15 jurisdictions around the world criminalise the gender expression of trans and gender diverse people, through ‘cross-dressing’ laws. In at least 26 countries, ‘public order’, ‘vagrancy’ and ‘misdemeanour’ offences are used to criminalise trans people. The event will be opened by David Greene, Vice President of The Law Society. Confirmed speakers are Rachel Reese - Vice Chair, LGBT Solicitors Division, The Law Society, Tamara Adrian – Venezuelan lawyer, trans activist and politician, Zhan Chiam – Gender Identity and Gender Expression Senior Programme Officer, ILGA. Registration: 6:00pm Panel discussion: 6:30pm  Reception: 8:00pm Kindly supported by the Baring Foundation, The Law Society and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.
