      Hess/AC/Hess Spacelab

Contemporary jazz at its finest, Nikolaj Hess (piano), Anders “AC” Christensen (bass) and Mikkel Hess (drums) perform lyrical, cinematic and life-affirming original music from ‘Spacelab’ – nominated as ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ 2014 at the Danish Music Awards. Having performed together since early childhood in Vejle, Denmark (and now celebrating their 25th anniversary), the trio have a unique magical rapport creating intense and poetic live performances.

Please note: this performance will be staged 'in-the-round' with limited seating. Available seating will be allocated in the order in which people book. Nikolaj ‘The Champ’ Hess is a Denmark/New York-based piano player, composer, producer and arranger whose virtuoso piano playing can be heard on more than 100 albums. His latest trio album featuring Kenny Wollesen & Tony Scherr on drums and bass has received international critical acclaim and was hailed by Politiken as #1 jazz record in Denmark in 2013. Nikolaj has written music for movies (Lars Von Triers “Melancholia” and Juliane Fezer’s ‘Meeres Stille’) and has played with Lee Konitz, Benny Golson, Hess Is More, Global Motion, Fela Kuti and many others.

Anders 'AC' Christensen is "the ace of bass". He plays with the Raveonettes, Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band, Tomasz Stanko’s Quintet & psychedelic rock group Savage Rose. His first release under his own name is a trio with Aaron Parks & Paul Motian, entitled 'Dear Someone'. He has written film music for Omar Shargawi’s latest movies, among them 'Go with Peace Jamil'.

Mikkel Hess is founder, composer, ‘Minister of Integration’, drummer and vocalist for Hess Is More. He is also a prolific film and theater composer (Royal Theater, Royal Danish Ballet, short and feature films). Mikkel’s very personalized masterful jazz drumming can be heard on several award winning albums, among them the collaborative “You shouldn’t do this if you are in a hurry” featuring Chris Potter on sax.
